Here is my therapy message posted just so I can read it to myself.
It’s a very bitter pill to finally realize that every person on this planet has differing opinions. In our fantasy world, we’d like to think that we all have the same core instincts and intellect, and maybe even values. I’ve mentioned this before so many times, and I’ve always stayed happy and content in my own controlled world.
My instincts and values aren’t wrong in my eyes, and the same goes for everyone, as seeing themselves through their own eyes.
Yes, the example I will give is this recent election.
We fall into a trap. The trap is that we feel we are correct in how we view things, and others are wrong. Others feel the same way about their views and ours are wrong. Who is correct?
Now the media comes along that we hear every second of the day, and we do our simple mental editing. Much like sorting through recycling garbage on a sorting belt. We were hired to find these types of items, and that is all we can pull from the belt. The person next to you was hired to look for other item types. Is that person wrong for pulling off plastic instead of tin? No. Should I dislike that person for not grabbing the things I want to grab? No! They were hired or parental or socially trained/influenced to grab those things, and to be in that mindset. I can dislike them if they spit on me or yell at me because I think differently than they do, but not just for different likes or duties.
Back to the media. They get paid to influence you. They influence you with the things that they get paid the most to influence with. They are in business to do that. They also sell headlines and they are experts at finding the ‘flavor of the day’ and repeating that over and over. It doesn’t matter if that headline is good or bad, they just need listening ears. Influential listening ears.
So where am I going with this?
Last night’s election results were devastating to me and my family. Initial thoughts are the United States is broken, and the morals and ideals of the ‘winning’ side is just not good.
But the reality is that we ‘still’ live in a democracy, and that means the will of the people. The interests and the mindsets of the American people is just different today than it was years back. We have to remember that there are a lot of countries that are glued to this big spinning globe, that live in despair everyday.
We will adjust and continue to live.
Thanks for listening!
