Now that the election is coming up in November there’s a lot of things to think about. I’m sure I’m not the only one with deep anxiety.
I will have to assume that this is an example of human nature that I haven’t really had to examine in my lifetime. I have to do it now just for mental survival. I’m taking you along for the ride on this ‘examination.’
I will refer back to a generalization that I have always made about society and the population. It gives me a better grasp on the perspective of how many live amongst me, and why we think the way we do.
Drive to a stretch of highway anywhere in the country. Park alongside the road if permissible and count just the cars that pass by you. Don’t count the other lane, just your side. Do this for about 15 to 30 minutes.
It may be best to do this on a busy freeway, but not at rush hour.
Some of those cars are occupied by more than one person. Most likely the average will be 1 to 3 people. So, let’s estimate one and a half.
So, multiply the number of cars by 1.5. That should give you an estimate of how many people have passed you.
Now the perspective part.
You just parked yourself on one little minute microsection of the country. How many people passed you? Imagine all the roads in just your own county, or your own state? That is in just 15 to 30 minutes! And then the nation. Think of the populated cities, etc. Unimaginable to count them in your mind, or even to try.
Each and every one of those people have different circumstances, and a different life history than you do. Each person has had their mental concept engrained and adjusted by different individuals than you did. Some good, and some not so good. Even your spouse or sibling was most likely treated differently than you were by your own parents.
How do we justify or generalize the individuals that think differently than we do. How do we say that they are wrong? How do we prove that they are wrong? I’m not sure we can.
However, there is a fairly clear distinction between right and wrong, good people and then the lesser. I believe that there is a compass placed in our soul when we are born, regardless of who our early ‘trainers’ are.
We will have influencers. The people we depend on for our lives at an early age. We take their words and actions as the ‘real’ rules and start to follow and obey. However, I strongly believe that the compass is in place. However, it just gets no use, as we don’t understand it’s purpose yet, or that we even have one.
As we get just a bit older and discover that internal compass, genetics may start to take a stronger influence. It can be compared to a magnet that is tossed in beside that internal compass. It will have an effect on that compass. Genetics will have an impact on your energy level, your degree of interest in many things. Genetics will have an impact on your aspirations, and where and how you want to live your life.
Many individuals will be able to override the ‘genetic magnet’ but may still need an external magnate to function. Many will look to others for that magnate as they may feel someone else is in charge of their internal compass. They need someone to show them. They will move toward individuals that seem ‘easy’ to be around or understand. Possibly those that have a strong magnetic pull, or charisma.
And there will certainly be those individuals that discovered their own internal compass, they understand and follow it, and they don’t need another person for guidance. This is where it starts to get interesting.
Let’s explore a concept. Imagine a person following their own internal compass has discovered that they are also a magnate. People seem to gravitate toward them. Let’s call them ‘magnate holders.’ Even though their own internal compass is functional, and they use it, they also realize that the magnate they have, can influence the internal compass in others.
They can use it for good, and find people that they can help, or use it for less than good, and use it just to attract financial gain and power as the main purpose. When financial gain and power is the focus, their internal compass becomes much less functional and actually starts to corrode. Eventually their compass is unusable, and they are more interested in gripping the ‘magnate handles’ and pointing it toward ‘wandering’ individuals.
Now let’s examine the ‘wandering’ individuals that ‘need’ a magnate. There are lots of them! They can’t figure out how to use their internal compass as a tool for their good, and still may not even know that they have one. They are looking for a magnate to guide them. These individuals stand out like fireflies on a dark night to those that are using their influence to attract others for their own personal power.
These ‘wanderers’ wouldn’t be considered lazy; they just lack in any motivation to search for ways to use that internal compass and get it active. If they can find someone to follow that tells them things that make ‘surface’ sense, they have eliminated most of the ‘unknowns’ in their life. Surface sense is just enough information to get them on the bus, even though they have no idea as to where that bus is going.
Once the ‘wanderers’ are on the bus, and it is moving down the road, the ‘magnate holder,’ or influencer takes the stage. The presenter has a captive audience. Where are they going?
The presentation starts out simple and easy. It all makes sense, and the wanderer is comfortable and happy to be in the seat. As the presentation gets longer, things are said that aren’t real pleasing to hear, but not worth exerting any energy to question the presenter. Much later the wanderer starts to look a bit dismayed from what is being said. Another wanderer sees the concern. They approach the dismayed wanderer and comfort the individual. They remind them of the ‘surface sense’ topics that got them on the bus. They do this until that dismayed look fades away.
The bus keeps travelling and has now made it a substantial distance. Days and nights travelling, the dismayed wanderer has made many friends. These friends have repeatedly engrained the ‘surface sense’ topics and all of the dismay has vanished and are now committed to being on the bus. They don’t want to ever leave, and actually help convince other riders that may look noticeably dismayed.
The presenter (main magnate holder) keeps talking day after day, and the wanderers listen as though it is background music to meditation. They don’t even realize that the presenter is just after power and influence, and he has their full buy in.
As the wanderers look out the window of the bus, they see road signs that explicitly explain the immoral and terrible actions of the presenter. How do they respond, or what do they think?
Most will ignore it. And the remaining ones will think it is all made up information.
Why?
Remember, their internal compass is guided by the presenter’s magnate. There is no other guidance in their existence. They have signed off and given full control over to the presenter. And if they ever stray, other believing wanderers will circle. Their life is so easy since they gave up any personal ‘ownership’ to what their beliefs should be, or their own internal compass. They just have to stay ‘plugged in’ to the presenter’s teachings, good or bad.
They are no longer wanderers, they are followers.
And they are no longer individuals.
Now, remember all of those people that we counted, but really couldn’t get our mental computers even close to a total?
They all live in a world that is reliant on money. And that concept makes sense. Without money the world would be in total chaos.
They learn early that the more money they have, the more pain relief and enjoyment can be purchased.
Very early on they also learn that there are ways to accumulate that money. Being human, their main focus in their existence is to decrease their pain and increase their pleasure. Again, money is a huge influence in accomplishing that.
The way to create that financial presence in our life is by using two things we were born with. Our physical attributes, or our mental ones. In other words, working hard, or working smart. But it requires effort. Without effort we are virtually homeless. More on this later…
